The process of picking flowers with Watanabe Floral

Hawaii’s premier florist has been selling beautiful flowers in the islands for more than seven decades. In the beginning, Watanabe Floral farmed it’s own roses and other bloooms. Now, the company gathers its flowers from other nurseries in Hawaii and around the globe. We find out more about how Watanabe Floral preserves these delicate blooms so we here in the 50th state can enjoy them.

Watanabe Floral stays blooming in Hawaii

Watanabe Floral located on Nimitz Highway has been serving Hawaii for more than 70 years. The founder, Ernest Watanabe, first started growing roses at the family farm in Kahala. The company has expanded throughout the years from rose grower and wholesaler to importer and retail shop owner. Discover how the local shop continues to bloom.

Watanabe Floral is making wishes come true this Mother’s Day

May is a busy month for flower shops in Hawaii with Mother’s day and graduation orders flooding in. As part of its commitment to giving back to the community, Watanabe Floral is partnering with Make-a-Wish Hawaii to make dreams become a reality for critically ill children. The flower shop is donating part of its proceeds from their Mother’s Day orders to the organization. Host Jobeth Devera spoke to a very special six-year old and his family.

Did you know you can improve workplace productivity with flowers?

Studies show that having flowers and plants in the workplace improves a person’s mood, increasing happiness and in turn, work productivity. Researchers found that some people even demonstrated more innovative thinking. Watanabe Floral has been distributing flowers for more than 70 years in Hawaii and during the month of September, they are partnering with Hospice Hawaii to raise awareness about caring for the needs of individuals at their life’s end, by giving 25% of proceeds to the nonprofit.
