Project Vision Hawaii serves public school students statewide, delivering free vision screenings, eye exams, and prescription eyeglasses to over 30,000 keiki every year, primarily in Title I and underserved schools in partnership with the Hawaii Department of Education and charter schools. The initiative has expanded to include hearing screenings and will soon incorporate dental services, creating a holistic approach to early health detection. This is critically important because untreated vision, hearing, or oral health issues can significantly hinder academic performance, social development, and overall well-being—often leading to misidentified learning difficulties, lower self-esteem, or long-term health complications. By breaking down barriers such as low income, lack of insurance, geographic isolation, or access challenges, the program ensures Hawaii's children receive timely interventions, equipping them with the clear sight, sound hearing, and healthy smiles needed to thrive in school, build confidence, and reach their full potential in life.
